BOTRIVIER BARREL RACE – locals celebrate the art of barrel rolling

Every year the Bot River community gathers in the town square to watch which winery team can roll their barrels fastest. Its competitive, it’s loud and if you’ve never seen a barrel race – it’s one not to miss! This year the race takes place on Saturday 24 October at 11h30-15h00.

This community project is arranged by the Bot River Vineyard Association and is a wonderful day for the local farm workers, supported by their families and friends. Races are relay style with time trials, leaving the two best teams competing for the grand prize (of R2500) in the final race.

Come cheer the barrel race rollers on while enjoying good food and local wine. Entry form and more details on the site: http://www.botriverwines.com/can-you-beat-the-bot-river-barrel-race-rollers/

On the same day the Bot River Van der Stel Pass Challenge takes place. The event is organized by the Botrivier Education Foundation, starting and ending at the historic Bot River Station. The route winds along the beautiful Van der Stel Pass and over land and farms not normally open to the public.

Options include an 8km and 15km trail run and a 5km, 10km and 21.1km road run, a 60km, 40km or 15km Mountain Bike Race and even a 5km night run (on 23 October)
