Hope Marguerite 2018 does it again with its 8th Platter 5 star rating!


The start of spring 2019 has been rewarded with some beautiful and much needed rain on the farm and some fantastic ratings and reviews of Hope Marguerite. Starting off with the most recent at the launch of the 2020 Platter Wine Guide last week which saw it receiving its 8th Five-star rating in the guide for the 2018 vintage. Wine magazine as well as Tim Atkin also scored this vintage 95 points.

Hope was again judged as one of the Top 100 South African Wines – 2019 Classification. While it also received 90+ points in the Wine Advocate in the US. This follows Platter 5 star ratings for 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017.

1997 Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc Barrel Reserve **** (In pvs. Guide as Chenin Blanc Reserve.) Lavishly treated chenin, tailored in serious mode in pursuit of a wine of substance, regardless of variety. Waxy aroma, nutty (walnut, almond) richness on deeply flavoured, creamy palate. Super length, wine with gravitas. Platter 2000 Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc 2008***** tops delicious 07. More intricate & tight, even tannic nip on just-dry finish. Texture, elegance, complexity forged by native fermentation in oak (20% new). Give yr /2 to evolve – great potential for this SA classic. WO Bot R. Platter 2010 97 out of 100 for a local wine is a rare achievement. Even more so when from Winemag.co.za editor Christian Eedes. ‘Exquisite, just exquisite,’ he enthuses about the fine Beaumont Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc 2016. Hope Marguerite 2017 was described by Lauren Buzzeo from the Wine Enthusiast in the following way - Fresh fynbos, Asian pear, ginger root, green melon and fig tones form the nose of this lovely wine, with pretty honeysuckle, orange blossom and beeswax accents all dancing in the background. The medium-weight palate boasts some opulence and roundness in the ripe, sweet citrus, melon and fig tones, but it's masterfully balanced by superbly bright and laser-focused acidity. Balanced and harmonious, with a long finish, this is delicious now, but shows some serious long-term potential. Drink now–2028.
