OUR WINE | Varietals & barrels
Sebastian and his team are fortunate to have 40 years of viticulture experience on this unique farm.
His wine making approach is instinctive, believing that wine is made in the vineyards and minimal intervention is needed. Ancient, low-yielding Chenin Blanc and Pinotage vines are honoured in the process, allowing the wines to be a true reflection of the land and vineyards. He has a hands-on approach to wine-making, using old-cellar techniques like natural yeasts and old open concrete ‘’kuipe’’ fermenters.
His non-conformist approach embraces the old but also creatively uses modern winemaking techniques to produce limited quantities of specialised, characterful and authentic wines.
BEAUMONT NEW BABY
A blend created from our 5 white varietals, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay and Colombar.
Resulting in a fascinating barrel matured white blend.
A Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon blend with loads of flavour and soft tannins.
Beaumont produced the bottled the first single varietal Mourvedre in the country in 1999 and since then we have produced limited amounts of this fascinating grape every year.
BEAUMONT CAPE WHITE
Finally our first Cape White (Port style) created by chance in 2013 by Alvaro Roseira, our Portuguese intern that year. Initially started as a skin ferment Chenin Blanc that Alvaro said we should fortify to make a port wine. Drier than you think, strangely nutty and yet with that delicious fruit of the Chenin Blanc. Drink neat or mixed with tonic and a slice of orange as a delicious aperitif.
BEAUMONT HOPE MARGUERITE 2019
A careful selection of the most characterful fruit from our oldest vineyards at Beaumont, left to ferment naturally with minimum intervention, matured in mostly old 400L French oak, of which 15% was new wood.
Matches brilliantly with seafood especially scallops and any beautifully spicy Asian dishes.
Named after Ariane Beaumont – this is a classic Bordeaux style blend.
BEAUMONT CAPE VINTAGE PORT 2017
Our Port was made in true Beaumont style…
stomped by foot! A blend of Tinta Barocca and Pinotage.
BEAUMONT DANGERFIELD SYRAH 2017
Good colour, spicy fruit and pepper on the nose and flavours of berry fruit with fine ripe tannins on the finish make this a full but elegant wine. 100% French oak and 25% of total in new barrels.
Our flagship red blend gets its name from our 200 year old watermill. This is an unapologetically Beaumont blend based on Mourvedre, Pinotage, Syrah and Cabernet Franc.
A consistent 4 star winner in Platter. This is still an elegant style of Pinotage with red berry and ripe fruit flavours with fine tannins and lovely fruit on the palate.
Jancis Robinson wrote that the 2011 vintage was one of the best Pinotages she had ever tasted.
BEAUMONT CHENIN BLANC
This vintage is a beautiful expression of the grape capturing the full flavour and potential that our terroir has to offer. It is a delicious example of cooler climate Chenin Blanc fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks. Dry, fresh and delicious!
